Relationships are hard work. Don't be discouraged, I am here to help!
My foundational therapeutic approach is narrative therapy, which is non blaming, non shaming, empathetic but accountability holding and results orientated. For couple work I have specific training and regular supervision in The Developmental Model which combines attachment theory, neuroscience and differentiation theory. This is the best framework I have found within which to understand conflict in relationships and address this in the most direct, effective way possible. For more information on The Developmental Model, click here: couplestherapynz.com/developmental-model/
See here for more information on my qualifications and experience.
Sessions are 80 minutes long, and the rate is $225 (incl gst). I currently work online via zoom or in-person in Kingsland.
The first session is to get to know each other, the issues you are wanting to work on, to understand my theoretical approach and get an understanding of the direction I would take. (I intend for you to come away from that first session with helpful ways already to be thinking about the problem(s) in the relationship.) If you are then interested to progress from there, I ask for an additional three session commitment where we will address specific goals that we have identified.
Effective relationship therapy would normally require approximately 6-20 sessions, dependent on the number/intensity of issues that have built up, degree of prior unresolved trauma, and the willingness of both parties to look at their contribution to the relationship dynamic.
I have worked with individuals and couples in relationship work in the following areas:
- conflict/communication breakdowns (including conflict around parenting, care of elderly parents, conflicting career challenges, conflicting desires for children, IVF challenges, and many more)
- sexual issues (including from past sexual assault, differences in sexual desires/preferences, issues around pornography use, infidelity, etc)
- issues related to polyamorous/open relationships
I work with couples in same gender or opposite gender relationships (or both) and those who are questioning their sexual and/or gender orientations.
If you would like to know more you can send me a question or request to book via the form on this page.
