Qualifications and Professional Membership
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling (2016) and a Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy (2010).
I am a full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), and I abide by the NZAC Code of Ethics.
Modality
I am trained as a narrative therapist. Narrative therapy believes that you are not the problem, the problem is the problem. Therefore I will work with you to expand the narratives (stories) that have come to shape you, in order to stand against the problems that are messing with you. I also use practices and skills from ACT, CBT, DBT, psychotherapy and mindfulness, where relevant.
I value working collaboratively with you, to help achieve the goals you want to get out of counselling.
Experience
I have experience working with individuals and couples on topics including depression, anxiety, communication and relationship problems, infidelity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, polyamorous related issues, self-harm, domestic violence, sexual abuse, eating disorders, blended families, mothering, infertility, grief and loss, existential crises, career changes, etc.
Having survived through my own dark tunnel I am passionate about supporting others struggling to survive. While my approach is influenced by ideas of social justice, feminism and holistic health, my focus with you will be to uphold and strengthen the values you bring, which will support you in getting closer to the life you really want.
