Modality
I am trained as a narrative therapist. Narrative therapy is a non-pathologising modality that focuses on your strengths and endurance in the face of mental distress. I will work with you to understand the narratives that have come to shape you, and help to provide you with a larger array of options going forward, in order to support you to address the problems that are messing with you.
For couple work I also use The Developmental Model which combines attachment theory, neuroscience and differentiation theory. This is the best framework I have found within which to understand conflict in relationships and address this in the most direct, effective way possible. For more information on The Developmental Model, click here: couplestherapynz.com/developmental-model/
I also regularly use practices and skills from ACT, CBT, DBT, trauma informed therapy, psychotherapy and mindfulness, where relevant.
I value working collaboratively with you, to help achieve your counselling goals.
Experience
I have almost 10 years experience as a qualified therapist, working with individuals and couples on topics including depression, anxiety, communication and relationship problems, infidelity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, polyamorous issues, self-harm, sexual abuse, disordered eating, blended families, domestic violence, mothering, infertility, grief and loss, career changes, existential crises, and more.
Having survived through my own dark tunnel I am passionate about supporting others struggling to survive. While my approach is influenced by ideas of social justice, feminism and holistic health, my focus with you will be to uphold and strengthen the values you bring, which will support you in getting closer to the life you really want.
